Derailed

Last night I watched a very good movie called Derailed. It is an American thriller/drama based on a James Siegel novel and it is casted by Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston.
The protagonist, Charles Schine (Clive Owen), is an advertising executive married to a schoolteacher in Chicago. Charles' marriage is deteriorating due to the stresses of caring for a teenage daughter who is seriously ill with diabetes.
While on a commuter train Charles encounters an alluring woman named Lucinda (Jennifer Aniston) — he had forgotten his fare and Lucinda offers to pay for it. The attraction is mutual, and the two begin meeting more frequently. Ultimately, the two are intent on consummating their affair in a shady hotel. Just as Charles and Lucinda are about to have sex, an armed man bursts into the hotel room, beats Charles and brutally rapes Lucinda. Charles and Lucinda agree not to report the crime, as they do not want their spouses to learn of the affair. Shortly after the incident, Charles is blackmailed by thief, who demands money in order to keep quiet about the situation. He gave the man the money but he asks for more money u$$ 100,000 which is the quantity he had saved for his daughter treatment after that he is involved in money other crimes.
I will not tell you the end of the story just in case you want to see it. It leaves a good moral" we should think twice before being unfaithful because there are many things that we can lose".

Greenland

Once upon a time there was a kingdom called Greenland. The inhabitants of the kingdom were green vegetables. The entrance was forbidden to vegetables of any other colour . The king was and old asparagus who hated colours except green of course, and the queen was a conceited lettuce who did not love anybody but her. They had a handsome and strong pepper son, he was kind, generous and with a big heart.
The king trained his army to extinguish any vegetable of other colour who attempted to pass near his kingdom.
One day the Pepper was riding his horse in the outsides of Greenland when he saw a beautiful red colour he had never seen before . He approached it and asked:" Who are you? and the sweetest voice he had ever heard answered fearfully "I am Beet and I live in Colourfultown near here but I lost my way" She was crying but Pepper cried: "Don't worry you can come with me I will take you to my home""Are you crazy" she replied "I am red and the greens hate other colours" Pepper who was madly in love by that time told her he did not hate her as a matter of fact he thought she was beautiful and he liked her.
He knew it was dangerous to take her to Greenland so he showed her the way to her home and arranged to meet there the next day.
They met at the same time the following day and the next day during a month. They were in love but they knew their families would never approve their relationship so they decided to run away to a place where they could be happy no matter their colours.

Insecurity 19-05-2007

Have you ever suffered an assault or any other violent episode related to insecurity?
The world is becoming more insecure and Tucuman is a good example of this. There are many facts that can confirm this assertion. To start with, there many robberies downtown. You go walking when suddenly somebody steals your purse and you do not have even time to react.
Another problem related to insecurity is the kidnapping of people especially young girls who are raped and killed. There are thousands of examples but maybe one of the most known is the case of Paulina Lebbos who was raped, killed and left in an isolated place.Yet, nobody knows who were the murders.
The kidnappings are also practised to catch girls in order to make them work as prostitutes in different provinces. Marita Veron, for instance was kidnapped from the front door of her house and she was taken to different provinces according to her mother who is still looking for her. She thinks Marita cannot escape either because she is under the effects of drugs or because the captors threaten to kill her.
From my point of ,the worst weakness of this government is insecurity. The governor Jose Alperovich must do something to stop this ,otherwise it will be impossible to walk in the streets as we will feel unprotected. Police, should be prepared to help people in every way.
The "planes jefas y jefes de hogar" should be avoided , people need dignity which means real jobs. Those "planes" rather than being a solution are a problem because they are not enough for people to live in a proper way and what is worst they want to receive everything without doing any effort. When they do not get what they want from the government they steal because they are resentful with a society that does not provide with the same opportunities to everybody.

My best teacher 18-05-2007

When I was in high school I loved my Language classes and I think in a way it was because the teacher was awesome.
She was quite short and chubby , she was not beautiful but she had a "light" that attracted everybody, she was very charismatic. But what I liked most about her was her simplicity and the way she used to approach the students. She was so nice and kind that we felt comfortable to talk about anything with her.
I also admired her because she was a cultivated person, she seemed to know everything, not just only things related to her subject but different issues. It was a pleasure to hear her speech, she was passionate and she transmitted her passion to the listeners.
She taught us to think she said it was important to be analytic and see everything from different perspectives, she encouraged us to go beyond the surface and she used to tell us not to let people to tell us what to think.
She took time to explain to us carefully whatever she was teaching, providing reasons, examples in order to make us understand her. Her classes were never boring.
She did not treat us like "just students" but like humans with different thoughts , feelings and
problems. We could always trust on her and she was ready to give us help and support.
She encouraged her students to get involved in social issues, to participate as active citizens because as she used to say the only way to change what we do not like is participating instead of complaining.
We respected her because she respected us, she gave us the freedom to express our ideas and never said you are wrong on the contrary she was open to our comments.
She gave us tools to start living in society respecting everybody because our rights finish where the others start, as she used to paraphrase.
For everything mentioned above and for being an amazing woman is that I think my Language teacher was the best teacher I ever had.

A good book to read:"La viuda de los Jueves"

" La viuda de los Jueves" is a great book written by the Argentinian writer Claudia Piñeiro. The novel is written in a very attractive way, it draws a line between past and present and mixes both all the time to make the reader understand better.
The story is about the way in which rich Argentinean society live in a closed, exclusive neighbourhood in the outsides of the city of Buenos Aires, these places are called "countries" in Argentina.
Altos de la Cascada is a "country" where the story takes place. There are many big, beautiful houses not separated from each other with any fences. The place is exclusive and only accessible for the rich. Many families live in the "country"sharing the same standards of living and they want to keep it at any price. The problem is that at the end of the presidency of Antonio DE La Rua the financial decay of the country affected all Argentinean especially the people who lived in Altos de la Cascada who were not able to adjust their lives to the new reality of the country.
"Las viudas de los Jueves"(the widows of Thursdays)is the way women in the country used to call themselves because their husbands meet every Thursday to eat and play cards. That day the wives were free to go to cinemas, theatre or do other things. The nick Widows is like a prediction to what happens at the end of the book.
I will not tell the end but I recommend to read it, it is very interesting to know a reality very different to ours, the middle classes. The book shows how frivolous people can be. They do not have any scruple to do whatever, even kill in order to live in an ostentatious way.
If you have the chance read this book is not only interesting but also entertaining and it keeps the reader expecting what will happen until the last page .

A good book "La viuda de los Jueves"

The worst news 13-05-07

In 2004 my brother was living in Spain, he is a chef and he was working in a restaurant while studying in Karlos Arguiñanos' school.
By the end of August 2005 my family and I were preparing a welcome party for my brother who was coming to visit us. We were very excited to see him again after a year of absence.
Three days before coming my brother faint while walking in the street, luckily he was not alone and he was given the first aid after that he was hospitalised.
At hospital the doctors told him he needed to be operated because he had a heart decease which was wear at his age, 28.
Obviously, my parents had to travel to Spain but the problem was that none of them have their passport ready, so they went to the embassy in Buenos Aires and they were authorized to travel .
They arrived in Spain on September,15th and my brother was operated on October,5th. It was a very complected operation with high risks, after that he stayed at hospital for a month to be controlled daily.
Meanwhile, my sisters and me were suffering a lot because we were in Argentina and we did not know the real conditions of my brother's health as my parents did not want to worry us.It was a difficult time we were anguish and desperate.
After three months, fortunately my parents and my brother return home, they said it was the worst experience they ever had but they also said that Spanish people were very kind and helpful not only the doctors and nurses but also all the other people who helped them in a way or another.

Be patient!!

I think patience is one of the most difficult virtues to cultivate.
I remember myself waiting in many different situations and feeling so anxious and nervous because the absence of patience in my personality.
There are many examples like when you go to the doctor's and your appointment is at 6 o`clock but for some reason you enter his door at 8.30. What do you do meanwhile? You start reading magazines(if there are) and then speak with other patients about nonsenses like the weather, or a TV show and after that you are so disturbed that you feel like killing the secretary or anybody who is near you.
Another annoying example of not being patient is when you are waiting for a phone call and the telephone does not ring. You stick to the phone thinking that only because you are near it, like a miracle it will ring. After one, two or more hours you get so furious and frustrated that you want to throw the telephone through the window as an Almodovar´s movie.
Patience is a virtue I admire a lot from other countries like Japan.I think meditation is a good practise to acquire it

Buy buy buy!

It seems that nowadays buying is essential in modern life.
From the very moment we start watching TV, and that is very early, we are exposed to thousands of ads that show products as indispensable for us to have a beautiful and happy life.
The ads show gorgeous people smoking or drinking a certain brand and someway that seems to act in our brain to impel us consuming as if we buy such or such brand of drink, cigarette or whatever,we will become all of the sudden in beautiful and successful creatures.
Television influenced so much in the our choices even to buy simple things like rice or noodle we rely on TV.I think this influence is harmful especially for children who more than ever think that possessing is a synonym of happiness. They feel very frustrated when parents can not afford what that "NEED" because everything seems to be necessary for them, from a PlayStation to a cell phone.
Not only children but also adults, especially women, have the impulse to buy things that they do not need but just want.
Technology has also increased the spirit of consuming because there are so many gadgets to buy and most of the people desires the last cell phone as to show status to give one example of the thousands there are.
In what respects to me I can say I am a consumer; I do not know how to save . I am always tempted to buy everything especially when I am depress I can buy useless things that I regret having bought them after I feel better. I think that is a compulsive behaviour that shows how empty I feel sometimes and trying to fill that emptiness by buying is not a solution at all.

Portfolios

I have attended to a teacher training seminar about "portfolios as a whole picture of self".The training took place at Carlos V Hotel, the talk was held by Lucrecia Prat Gay.
I found the seminar very interesting as I learnt the importance of portfolios to see the progress the students do.
Mrs. Prat Gay said" portfolios are pictures of product and progress, they include a carefully selected collection of student´s work that provides clear evidence of his/ her knowledge, skills and grasp of concepts in areas over a specific time".
She insisted on encouraging students to feel comfortable and to help them build a self- esteem because as teacher we should not forget that we are dealing with people.
One of the advantages of the students selecting items for their portfolios is that they develop a sense of what constitutes quality.
Another advantage of portfolios is that help students to take responsibility for their own learning by evaluating and reflecting on their work.
From my point of view portfolio are something that I would like to apply with my students but I do not know how yet.
All in all, I am open to all the new methodologies and strategies that may come and if somebody can help me with this issue , I would really appreciate it.

Being in love

Being in love is the best feeling one can have.
When you are in love you feel an adrenalin that let you do the craziest things you have never imagined to do.
When you are in love you experience great joy, everything is fine and all the problems diminish because you see them through the eyes of love.
When you are in love all your senses are more awaken than ever: when you close your eyes the first image you see is your lovers, the best perfume is the smell of his skin, the sweetest sound you hear is his voice, the most delicious taste is his kiss and when he touches you is like reaching heaven.
When you are in love you are not alone anymore even if the love is not corresponded you have somebody to think in.
When you are in love everything seems possible because your attitude towards life changes, you feel confident and positive in every way.
For all I have already mentioned above I must say that being in love is the best state and we all must experiment, at least once .

A love story

This is the story of a man and a woman who were looking for each other for a long time but they did not know they were meant for each other.

He wanted to control her, she could not give a step without his consent. After three years of unhappiness she decided to put an end to this sick relationship, it was not an easy decision , on the contrary she was afraid of his reaction, in fact he started to threaten her. Although she was very scared she did not surrender to the fear and she stock to her original decision. She pried and pried for him to let her go and suddenly the miracle happened: he stopped bothering her.
After six months of being shut away , Irina decided to live again, after all she was still young and she deserved a second chance, so she went with a friend to a pub. When she was sitting in the bar with Elen, her good friend, she saw Joe a very handsome man who she knew but never talked to him before. He went to the table where she was sitting and told her if he could sit there with them, Irina accepted and they started talking as if they knew for another life. They laughed and talked and talked, they where enjoying each other. They discovered they had many thing in common and since then they are happy together. They are in love but their love gives them oxygen to breath. It is a beautiful, quiet and huge LOVE.

To be or not to be, that is the question!

The reading of the book Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde has led me to many reflections on humans' nature, feelings and behaviours.
To start with, are we born good or bad? If we consider religion ( Catholicism) we are born with the original sin, that is to say we are not born good at all until we are baptized so according to this precept we are not good from the very moment we open our eyes to life.
As we grow up we learn many things in our family, we make the first steps to what is right and wrong and our parents have the moral obligation of showing us what is good and what is not so we modify our behaviour. But what happens with those children who haven`t got parents? Does it mean they are going to be a menace to society?Because if nobody shows them the limits between good and evil ,then how are they suppose to know them?
The discussion about this issue is endless and there are many points of views but in my personal opinion we are born good or bad of course that the environment influences on us but does not determine us. For instance, not all the brothers or sisters who are suppose to share the same education and values are the same.Within the same family one brother is very nice and kind while the other is the other way round. I think we know what is right and wrong , good and evil and we have the choice and the freedom to whatever we want to do. So the question is to be or not to be evil, and is our choice.

Against all odds

Stephen Hawking is a 65 year old scientist who has worked on the basic laws which govern the universe. He showed that Einstein's General Theory of Relativity implied space and time would have a beginning in the Big Bang and an end in black holes.
At the age of 21 he was diagnosed a terrible disease called ALS( Amyotrophical Lateral Sclerosis)characterised by progressive degeneration of the motor cells in the brain and spinal cord. Doctors told him he would live a year or maybe less. He didn't give up and he thought his body may not work at all but his mind could do it and he was determined to do whatever he could do. Now he is 65 he is living 44 years more than he was expected, he has a beautiful family( a wife, three children and one grandchild) and he is very successful in his profession.
Amazing.Isn't it? For me he is an example of strength, determination and love for life.
He is an example for me when I complain for many silly things. I think most of us do not really appreciate good health we live like if we were timeless. We don`t see the beauty of the simple things because we are always expecting our lives to improve. The problem is we dont know in which way we want our lives to improve and in that way we go for life complaining all the time because we dont have this or that and we forget about what really matters.

And what matters? depends on each person, for some people family and friends are more important, for others job and career and for others money, unfortunately those who care only about money are more exposed to lose their way.
I think it is useless to complain about what we cannot change instead we can try doing what we know we can do well, Stephen knew he couldnt move his body but he used what he knew was working: his brain.
This man has showed me that when you are determine to do something nothing can`t stop you. Against all odds he is giving the best of him. Bravo for his great courage!!

Big Brother

Big Brother is a controversial reality show. There are as many people who like the programme as people who hate it.
Those who watch it daily think BB shows behaviours, situations, and feelings from real life furthermore, it shows participants the way they are. The question would be: are they being themselves or are they just playing a part?
Those who are against the programme say that it is rubbish, it shows the worst of people, the participants stay in a house during four months doing nothing and showing all their miseries.
Anyway, I think we have all watched it at least once. Why? Because we are all voyeurs,we have the morbidity to know what people do indoors, how they behave when nobody watches them.So Big Brother represents a way to satisfied our "voyeurism".

Another question I have is what motivates people to to expose their lives in public? Is it the prize they pay to be famous? .I really don`t know but I 'm sure I wouldn't go there to expose myself to the cruel eye of others. I love having my life in private, so BB is definitely not for me .

Feeling blue

There aredays whenI feel I don`t wanna do anything at all and I see everything through the eyes of desperation. Those day I rather stay home because I can`t bear anybody not even myself.
As women we are more fluctuating in our mood , docto Today I don`t feel very well, it becomes difficult to write when I feel like this although sometimes sadness can be a source of inspiration. Doctors say It is a question of hormones, I suppose I can blame on the hormones I wanna disappear from the world.
Whenever I feel terrible I need to talk to my best friend Valeria who is the only person in this world I feel completely understood by. The only problem is that she is not here any more, she lives in Germany. Although we chat almost everyday is not the same because I don`t want to want to up set her with my problems( in fact they are not problems, just a transitory feeling of desperation).Besides she can`t do much from the distance.
So, can I do when I feel blue? Just let the bad times pass and wait for the good ones to come.

Appreciate the ordinary

I think we live in a world where acquiring things seems to be more important than anything else. We want to earn money to buy everything our eyes see .The more material things we have the more we want. We think that if we have the last cell phone we are trendy , we are cool and if we have a good car ,Oh Gosh we are awesome!!. But what happens when we have achieved all the possessions that we wanted to have? Is that enough to be happy?
It's time to return to the bases that is to say to start appreciating the ordinary, the ordinary means all those things that cannot be bought they are free and they can be reached by anybody at anytime.
The best things in life are free, for instance a hug, a kiss a word of love, they can fill our hearts and move feelings that we did not know that we had.
Staring at the moon and the stars is so beautiful and by doing it we can figure the majesty of God to create a world so perfect.
When we feel blue and empty is because we are pursuing only material things so that when we cannot reach them we feel frustrated and when we can reach them they are not enough we need more. Optimistic people are able to perceive and appreciate little things and that's why the are optimistic because with little they can be happy.
Whenever I feel sad I listen to music and dance and it's amazing how quickly I start to feel relieved and happy. I appreciate the ordinary because i think that is the key to happiness.

Ideal Holidays

When I was a Child I used to go to Las Estancias, a countryside place full of mountains, trees and fresh air. Las Estancias is in Catamarca but most of the people who spend holidays there is either from Concepcion or San Miguel de Tucuman. As a child I used to love it because I had many friends, my cousins and and the freedom to play all day long, as an adult I cannot say the same.
My family and I had a house there and the chance to go whenever we want. The problem is nobody want to go, I wander if it is because it hadn`t change at all, it is like if the time wouldn`t have passed there, everything remains 30 years ago. Having a holidays in las Estancias is more less like being in an Amish community. That could be good for some people but for me is extremely boring, Maybe I can bear it for a week but no any longer.
My question is why a place which was so meaningful to me in the past is now so dull. I blame on the lack of improvement of the place, everything looks old and ugly, and civilization is far away from Las Estancias. The view is beautiful but something should be done to catch tourists' attention . Anyway, I prefer going to the see side I love the sea, so maybe I don`t like Las Estancias because of that too. For me, ideal holidays would be in an island in Hawaii or in the Caribbean.

Brutality

The Chinese boy who killed 32 people and then committed suicide in Virginia, USA last Monday really shocked me. I cannot stop thinking about that horrible crime .
To start with, the fact that nobody realised the way the boy behaved leads me to the conclusion that we live in a selfish way where nobody matters.
If we are not able to see that a person who is very close to us is disturbed something is wrong with us, and if we see it( as same teachers and classmate said) and we do nothing is even worst. It shows our incapacity to connect with the others and to feel sorrow for the ones who are suffering.
On the other hand, it seems like America, in this case, never learn. How is it possible that a student have weapons in his dormitory ? Can anybody buy weapons?
What happens with the University now? How will they continue? There many wounds to heal. Security is one issue to be very careful about from now on.
Education is also an issue to take into account, teachers should teach not only academic contents but also values such as respect for the ones who are minorities let say race, religion, natitonality etc. We should learn to be tolerant and accept people the way they are. When we are not tolerant ,when we don`t respect and worst when we make fun of people's faults or mistakes, we generate a huge hate in their souls that in many cases end in brutal episodes.

My grandmother

Mauricio's post about his father inspired me to write about the best person I 've ever met who passed the way when I was 11 : my grandmother.
Her name was Rosalba she was beautiful in every way.She was born in Salta. At the age of eight she lost her parents in an accident. Since that fatal moment her life was very sad and tragic. She grew up in many different places , with different families and single aunts.
Although her life was full of misfortunes I have never heard any word of complaining coming out from her mouth.
She was kind, nice and quiet everybody loved her. She was like an angel she didn't have evil in her heart. She was a generous person. I think she is next to God in heaven because I can't imagine a person better than she was.
I was vacationing in Mar del Plata and I went to the church and started to cry when my mother asked me why I was crying I told her "my grandmother, my grandmother". those were the only words I uttered the day my granny was dying. We didn't know it but I can say I felt her
leaving me.
During many months I was so sad but suddenly for my birthday I dreamed with her and she told me: " Honey, I want to be the first one to tell you 'Happy birthday' ". From that day I knew she was with me and our love would last forever without spaces or time limits. I'm 32 years old now and I still remember her as if she was alive I even remember her voice. she was especial to me and to everyone who had the luck of meeting her.

What happens to Maradona?

It is very sad to see the way this man is living his life. He is destroying himself and it surprises me that a person who is supposed to have everything he wants doesn`t know how to deal with his life.
First of all, I think people made him believe he is a god, actually he is so far to be a God that he can not manage the fact he is a weak man with many vices and no control of themm at all.
Why can`t anybody help him? No doctors, no relatives , no friends.
He has been to hospitals so many times lately: for drug abuse, alchool abuse, overweight, heart problems and the list is endless. If somebody really loves him should do anything to save him from dying.
Is Maradona alone? Because I can see many people who are with him to take advantage of his fame , money and popularity. Everybody want to be near him in the good times but when he is in sorrow who really is with him.
Maradona is known not only in Argentina but in the whole world. He generates money EVERYWHERE. If there are financial interests, then people who are in charge of them you be more concern about his health and his mental state.
I admire him as the fantastic footballer he was but on no accounts can he be considered a good example to anybody.
Unfortunatly, I think he has little chances to change his current health and emotional state.
The"hands of god" is in the hands of GOD.

Education

Education is a right that we all have 08-04-07
That is why we fight
Because we want free minds, free spirits,
Free hearts, free souls free people…

Education is the opened door to a world
Of opportunities to a world of equality
To a world where everything can be achieved
Through effort, passion and strong believes.

Education is what motivates our hearts
To follow the direction of knowledge
To follow the direction of wisdom
To follow the direction of justice.

Education means everything for many of us
But nothing for those who want to manipulate
Minds, spirits, hearts, souls ,people…
Only education means freedom….

Trip to Turkey

When I was 16 years old I had the best opportunity a person may have in a lifetime, I travelled to Turkey as an exchange student with AFS( American Field service). I lived in Izmir with a host family for one year.I attended a Turkish school called Izmir Ozel Turk Lisesi where I learned not only the language but also a lot about their culture and customs.
The language was really difficult at the beggining.I remember me having terrible headaches at the end of the day as people were yelling at me all the time( somehow they think by yelling you`ll be able to undrestand better, but believe me is the other way round).
Religion marks a difference in what refers to culture. It is true that Turkey is one of the most cosmopolitan countries in the muslim world which allows them to be more open but at the same time they do respect and value their religion and customs. It is shocking to listen to their "priest" saying "Allah" with louders that can be heard eveywhere in the city and people stopped doing whatever they were doing and kneel down and pried.Another thing that might impress you is the way some women dress, some of them use black clothes covering even their faces , others just cover their heads with scarves and the rest and mayority wear what is fashionable.
Turkey is a beautiful country. There are many beaches, mountains and other touristical attractions.Istanbul is a huge city ,very crowded and polluted but what you can see there is just amazing: beautiful mosques, museums , parks, and the well kown "Buyuk Bazaar"(Big Bazaar). It takes one day to know it. There are many stores where you can buy from pepper to carpets gold and even clothes. But remember never buying the price they first say you must bargain away otherwise they will feel dissapointed and so will you as it is part of the ritual of selling-buying.
To finsih, I must say Turkey was the best experience in my life because I learned a lot about another country, about my country but especially I learned a lot about me. If you have the chance to travel toTurkey don`t miss it. Turkey is great and Turkish are very good host willing to make the tourist feel as if they were at home.

This is who I am

My name is Maria Isolina Lazcano. I`m from Concepcion, Tucuman.
I`m 32 years old and I`m single.
I work in a public school as an English teacher . I`m planning to finish my studies to be an English teacher this year, that is my goal and the motto of my life right now.
Speaking about me is not simple I think that I`m a sensitive, kind, open-minded and quiet person. On the other hand, I`m not patient, I want things to be done at the time I want, I don`t like to be given orders by anybody and I run away from people who are always complaining about everything.

I think life is beautiful and I always try to see the positive in everything, even when I have problems , as I see them as an opportunity to grow up and become a better person.
I have two nephiews who are twins and a geogeous niece, I`m crazy about them. My family and friends mean everything to me. I would like to finish my studies and have my own family but anyway I think I`m a happy person.
